Resort Information
Kirchberg is an attractive alternative to Kitzbühel. Somewhat quieter, you have easy access to the ski area plus a good choice of après ski offerings ranging from lively bars to Tirolean folklore evenings, plus a selection of other winter activities. On the slopes, beginners have their own nursery area on the Gaisberg mountain and advanced skiers looking for a challenge can opt for the 'Kitzbüheler Alpen' lift pass (available locally), giving unlimited access not only to the Kitzbühel area, but also to the 'Ski Welt' area via a gondola (a short ski bus ride from the village) linking Kirchberg into the Westendorf area. If you are really keen, you can then ski across to Westendorf village and on to the Söll side and beyond! Snowboarders also love the Westendorf side with its renown snowpark.

In 2009 Kitzbühel will be staging the 69th Hahnenkamm Race Weekend. First held in 1931, the Hahnenkamm Alpine Downhill ski race is one of the most famous races on the FIS World Cup calendar. Tens of thousands of spectators and media will come from all over the world to experience the excitement as the world's top racers compete for the accolade of winning in Kitzbühel. The most famous run, the 'Streiff' downhill, will be carefully prepared for this event during the early part of the winter season, and will only open to the public after the race weekend. The 2009 race weekend will be 23rd-25th January.
